Hexahedron Mine Ruins

Hexahedron Mine Ruins

Back in the early 1890's gold was discovered in the Hexie Mountains of what is now Joshua Tree National Park. After the discovery numerous mines were dug in the area. One such mine was the Hexahedron Mine which operated from the early 1890's until sometime shortly after the turn of the century. At its peak the mine was producing around 100 ozs of gold per year, but due to declining production, lack of water and a very remote location the mine was eventually abandoned. Today, all that remain are the walls of an old stone building, the now gated mine shaft, and a couple of large piles of rock that were dug out of the mine.
